Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?

You’ve been thinking about God, wondering if He is real.

Maybe you have more questions than ever about life — that of your loved ones, your colleagues, your family, and more specifically, YOUR life. Investigating evidence for the real existence of Jesus Christ, contemplating the scientifically sound reality that there is a divine Designer, and wrestling with what you choose to believe is the beginning.

Deciding to believe that God is real, and that Jesus is God, is only the first step.

The next step that will make your walk with God all the more real is to decide whether you believe Jesus really rose from the dead.

Historical evidence for the resurrection

In thinking about whether God exists (and reviewing the previous article), we can establish through science and logic that the cause and ultimate designer of the universe must be Spaceless, Timeless, Immaterial, Powerful, Personal, Intelligent, and Moral. But which God are we talking about? This could be Allah or some other theistic or deistic being. How do we know it’s the Christian God?

The answer lies in examining whether a man predicted and accomplished His own resurrection from the dead. If the evidence shows that this happened, then we can say that the same being who walked out of the tomb 2,000 years ago is the same being whose divine nature created the universe out of nothing.

This is why the resurrection is not just a miraculous event—it’s the defining proof that identifies which God created the universe. If Jesus rose from the dead as He predicted, then Christianity is true, and we know exactly who our Creator is.

There is plenty of historical evidence to witness to the fact. The Gospels were compiled from eyewitness accounts that have an astounding amount of correlation — something that would not be so obvious or even statistically possible unless it were true.

Why the resurrection is central to Christianity

Why is the act of Christ’s resurrection so important — and central — to Christianity?

It is important because He did not just come in human flesh to dwell among us as Isaiah prophesied that He would, but He died a horrific death and rose again to overcome death for us.

This may sound like a theological concept, but it’s not.

Let’s first pinpoint what Scripture describes as death: In the Garden of Eve, when Adam and Eve had perfect fellowship with God, death was never part of God’s intention. It didn’t exist. But when Adam and Eve sinned (referred to as “missing the mark” in Hebrew), it cost them the ability to be freely close to God who is perfect.

God is so holy, so perfect, that sins and impurities are incompatible with fellowship in His close presence. Not because He no longer wanted it, but His Divine Perfection makes it impossible. From that point on, death was the consequence of sin and both resulted in loss of the ability to walk closely with God, our Creator.

There is no life without Christ

If our Creator is the Source of all life force and all that exists, breathes, moves, and grows, then to be separated from Him can only be death, for without Him, we can do nothing. Yet in God’s mercy, people are born every day and live without knowledge of Him or speaking to Him because it is His hope that there will come a moment where each soul will acknowledge its Maker and be restored to Him.

How is this possible? Through Christ’s death AND resurrection. If we were all headed for death, it would have made no sense if He had remained in the tomb, dead, as any other person would be. He would not have conquered our wrongdoing and been able to atone for us who are imperfect, before a perfect God with the perfect sacrifice of His holy, sinless blood.

Jesus Christ rising from the dead restores our hope of knowing God

His resurrection means that death no longer has the final say. We are not doomed to stay stuck in our weaknesses, our vices, our tempers, and our greed to take vengeance with our own hands. We are not doomed to die without the God who created us having anymore say in our existence!

Jesus rising from the dead gives us access to the perfect Father through His sacrifice because He lives to forevermore invite us back into the Garden of Even, the paradise that is heaven!

What this means for you personally

God is so loving and so merciful that He gave His only begotten son so that no one may perish, but that all who believe in His name may be saved. (John 3:16)

Christ died for all the mistakes you’ve made, all the sins you’ve committed, the lies you’ve told, the people you’ve hurt and disappointed. He died for the version of you that you’re not proud of.

Jesus Christ rose from the dead so that you may come to know His great love for you both in this life and in heaven after your body dies. You need no longer fear to face God, for His perfection will not strike you with a lightning bolt. Instead, He is reaching out with nail-scarred hands, ready to embrace you as a prodigal child who is coming home at last.

His resurrection means you have hope; you can face tomorrow; you can trust Him who knows all things with your life and with all the things you don’t understand. There is redemption for everything you’ve been through in your life. All the regrets, the losses. God can make you new and use everything you’ve been through for good.

Jesus rose from the dead to equip you with power for such a time as this.

Now that you know why He rose from the dead and what that means for you, it is time to expand your perspective a little further still. Don’t get stuck on what Jesus has done for you — there is a world of dying people out there!

There are significant events happening in Israel — God’s chosen clock for the world because He was born of Israel  — that also hold relevance for Gods purpose for you. The Bible with its prophetic books (such as Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Revelation, among others) is y our textbook for understanding what is happening in the world and why the UN, WHO, and the powers that be are making the decisions that they’re making.

Nourish your faith with truth and get ready

The book of Proverbs encourages you to get understanding, get wisdom. It’s in the Word, in Him! The Scriptures foretold of Christ coming to die for us to take away the sins of the world, and it foretold of His Second Coming. It will happen soon!

Right before it does, Christ Himself predicted in Matthew 24 what would happen before the end —wars and rumours of war, earthquakes and famines, betrayal, persecution, false prophets, signs in the sky, and more. But, “the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
