Deciding God Is Real

Building a Firm Foundation in Faith

In a world going crazier by the month, deciding that God is real is like picking up an anchor for your life. It can weather all the storms of change and help you cope by planting your faith, your peace, and your rest on two things that never change: the Truth as written in the Bible, and God Himself – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who remain the same yesterday, today and forever.

In Matt 24:35 He says, “Heaven and earth may pass away, but My words will never pass away.”

If you are tired and overwhelmed by having to deal with constant change in your life, in technology, at work, in your family, and online, you’re on the right page.

Affirming Your Decision: Is God Real?

Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, “Come to Me, all you who are burdened and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” And in John 14:27, He says, “My peace I give you, My peace I leave with you, not as the world gives. …

But, how do you affirm your decision that God is real when you look at these Scriptures, and then look at all the terrible things that are happening in this world? Terrorism, martyrdom, death, torture, trafficking, war, natural disasters, and on and on. Where is God?

Wise Fred Rogers once said, “Look for the helpers.” Look for the light. Even in the darkest places, you can find testimonies of resilience, survival, courage, and desperate hope that rises.

All these things are more reason to affirm your belief in God than not. Dealing with all these things alone is too insufferable.

Why so many ask, “Is God real?” today

The issues described above are common reasons why people ask if God is real. But often, it’s even more personal than that.

It’s the young woman who has suffered rape and abuse at the hands of a trusted family member or pastor and who struggles with PTSD who surveys the damage and loss and asks that question.

It’s the boy whose dad walked out on his family, and who is looking for a role model to help him build his future life, and finding no one who exemplifies commitment, who asks that question.

It’s the victims of human trafficking who suffer unimaginable horrors and torture, taking on justice with both hands and a lot of raging compassion for others who ask that question.

It’s the single parents who do everything all day long, day in and day out, with barely any support and who feel invisible in their own lives who ask that question.

Choosing to believe whether God is real or not is personal.

Asking if God is real is almost the same as asking, “Do I matter? Does anyone see me? Do I have any worth beyond what other people take from me? Is there hope for me beyond the struggles of this life? If so, how does that work?”

You are asking about the meaning of life — more specifically, your life — a question you were made and born to ask. Your Maker, God in heaven, has been showing you the path to this conversation since the day you were born because He chose you. You are not a mistake, no matter how you were conceived.

If God is real, you have someone to rage at. You can pour out all your bitterness about the unfairness of what you’ve been through. You can pour out all your anger, your questions, your pain. At the end of it, when all is quiet, you will discover that more than wanting answers, explanations, and justice, you wanted someone to hear and see you. You wanted to not feel so achingly alone with your pain. Alone with things you don’t know how to handle, to fix, or to solve.

The good news is that God IS real. And He is big enough to handle your rage, pain, and tears with compassion.

Now what? If you’ve decided to believe that God is real, what comes next? Beyond getting honest with Him in prayer and looking at a Bible, how about some facts to substantiate this belief? Some evidence, proof, receipts! God is not short on those. Prepare for the ride of your life.

Evidence for God’s existence (science, history, personal encounters)

This website was started to help you review the evidence for God’s existence and to help you get started on your faith journey with some real substance.

Archaeology has given us plenty of proof that the history documented in the Bible is real and true. The chariot wheels of Egypt are still lying on the bottom of the Red Sea, for starters!

science and the bible

Science has given definition to the wonders of a divine Designer who created the world with intricate care, mathematical genius, musical rhythm, a fantastic spectrum of colour, humour, and mystery.

There are many personal encounters that have been recorded over centuries and if you make a point of studying and comparing them, you will find elements of the nature of God shining through all of them, in one way or another.

The Scientific Case: Why the Universe Points to a Creator

Beyond archaeological discoveries and personal testimonies, science itself provides compelling reasons to believe God exists. Consider the origin of the universe itself.

Everything that has a beginning has a cause. The universe had a beginning—therefore, the universe has a cause.

Not only did the universe explode into being out of nothing, but it did so with extreme precision. Stephen Hawking observed that if the expansion rate of the universe had been different by even one part in a thousand million million of a second after the Big Bang, the universe would have either collapsed back on itself or never developed galaxies. Why was that expansion rate so precisely fine-tuned? It appears designed, because if it were slightly off in either direction, we wouldn’t be here.

When we look at a universe that exploded into being out of nothing with such extreme precision, we can draw conclusions about what—or rather, Who—that cause was.

Think about it: Space, time, and matter had a beginning. So what could have caused space, time and matter? Only something outside of space, time and matter. In other words, the cause must be:

  • Spaceless (beyond physical dimensions)
  • Timeless (eternal, with no beginning)
  • Immaterial (not made of matter)
  • Powerful (to create the universe out of nothing)
  • Personal (to make a choice to create—because impersonal forces don’t make choices; gravity doesn’t decide whether to pull something to the ground, it just does it)
  • Intelligent (to have the mind to make a choice and to fine-tune the universe in its expansion)

When you think about a Spaceless, Timeless, Immaterial, Powerful, Personal, Intelligent cause—what do you think of? God.

Moreover, if there is a moral standard that exists—a law we must obey, such as “you ought to love people and not murder them”—then there has to be a moral lawgiver. That would be another attribute of this being: He’s not only Spaceless, Timeless, Immaterial, Powerful, Personal, and Intelligent—He’s also the standard of morality itself.

Here we have seven attributes of the God of the Bible, and we haven’t even opened the Bible yet!

Deciding whether God is real to YOU

After reviewing all these testimonies and categories of evidence for proof that God exists, it is time to look at your own life and ask God to remind and show you the evidence of His hand in your life before you ever gave Him a second thought.

Maybe you had a grandparent who prayed for you. Maybe someone in your lineage had made a covenant with God and in doing so, unlocked blessing for future generations that explain miraculous favor in your life.

Did you survive an accident or illness that should’ve killed you? Did you get away from terrible circumstances that should have wiped you out of the story? Look for the instances of protection, situations that could have been so much worse or fatal. Note the times that provision came through against all odds.

God has been watching over you!

faith and trust God is real

Why faith is not blind — proof + trust

The Word says in Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good!” That means using your senses. The goodness of God has taste, it’s visible. You can hear, see, touch, taste, and even smell it in your life if you’re looking for it!

People get dragged down by negativity, looking at everything that’s hard, painful, and bad in this life. That road goes nowhere. Look at what has gone right. As the old folk like to say, “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings, see what God has done!”

Gratitude is faith with open eyes. Give thanks for what you have because that is where the proof of your faith begins. Read the information on this website. Review the facts and evidence. Read testimonies online. Then decide for yourself what it all means to you.

Extend your trust in the Lord by asking Him to reveal Himself to you in a way that you will know without a doubt that it’s Him. He will do it! If everything you’ve been reading is real, then God is God, He has a plan for the world and your life in it, and that no matter what happens, you’re not alone.

You CAN have hope. You CAN have breakthrough.

You CAN know this God — before He formed you in the womb, He knew you and He called you by name. (Jer 1:5)

Your search for meaning has led you here. May you continue finding meaning in Him!
